Dolores Dorantes

Agave Festival Marfa 2019 is proud to present Dolores Dorantes, artist and poet, in conversation with Zoe Leonard and Tim Johnson on Sunday, June 2nd at the Crowley Theater.

Dorantes is the author of several excellent books of poems, including “Estilo,” “Querida Fabrica,” and “Dolores Dorantes”. Originally from Mexico, Dorantes is currently living in exile in the US. In recent years, she founded Cielo Portatil, an initiative dedicated to supporting Mexican and Central American exiles living in the US. In the late ‘90s and early ‘00s, Dorantes worked as an investigative journalist in Juarez, Chihuahua and along the border. She is also a priest in the Mahajrya Buddhist tradition.

In 2018, Dorantes collaborated with Zoe Leonard on the book The River / El Rio, published by Gato Negro Editions - An exhibition based on this work will be on view during Agave Festival at 300 S Kelly and will open on Saturday, June 1st.
