We look forward to seeing you in Marfa. This year’s Festival will take place between June 25 and 27. We will be updating the schedule with additional events during the coming weeks. Please check in with the schedule between now and the Festival, as times may have shifted.

Join Judd Foundation and Agave Festival Marfa for a conversation with Rainer Judd, President of Judd Foundation; Bertha González Nieves, Co-Founder & CEO of Tequila Casa Dragones; and Jim Martinez, agronomist and landscape designer; moderated by Tim Johnson, Director of Agave Festival Marfa. This discussion, in conjunction with the opening of Judd Foundation’s Agave Garden on West Oak Street in downtown Marfa, will focus on the importance of public spaces and native plants.

Join Judd Foundation for a community celebration for the opening of the Agave Garden at the Sentinel in Marfa. The event will include a special cocktail with Casa Dragones tequila to honor the spirit made with agave. The cocktail will remain on menu at the Sentinel for the month of July with 10% of proceeds benefitting the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department.

El Paso’s Taconeta will be special guests at Cactus Liquors for a a public tasting featuring representatives from many agave spirit brands including El Samaritano Mezcal, Flor del Desierto Sotol, Madre Mezcal, Magenta Tequila, Maybewest Mezcal, Mezcal Vago, Ojo de Tigre Mezcal, Penta Tequila, Rey Campero, Riquezas Mezcal de Oaxaca, Sotol Los Magos, Sotol Raramuri, Susto Mezcal and a few surprises, including Abasolo Mexican Whisky and Nixta Liqueur de Elote. Marfa Book Co and Marfa Public Radio present a conversation between five extraordinary journalists with many years of working in the U.S. and Mexico: Dudley Althaus, Cecilia Ballí, Alfredo Corchado, Angela Kocherga and Ricardo Sandoval.
The Marfa Visitor Center Pavilion is surrounded by another new garden designed by Jim Martinez! We have 40 chairs set aside for this event, which probably won’t be enough. Marfans, please bring chairs for yourselves and an extra chair or two for visitors, or a blanket. The venue is shaded, but it will be hot, so bring water. There will be no alcohol on site for this event, upon request of the City.

Marfa Book Co. and Mezcal Vago present a talk by the great poet, essayist, art historian and educator, Roberto Tejada. The event will be a celebration of Roberto’s recent book, “Still Nowhere in an Empty Vastness”. The book is a collection of essays and manifestos engaging hemispheric desires and borderland eventualities in the geopolitical imagination of the Americas. The book enlivens a capacious Latinx poetics, spanning to include 16th- and 17th-century imperial accounts, 20th-century images of Mexico pictured by U.S. artists and writers, the neo-baroque pageantry of José Lezama Lima in post-Revolution Havana, as well as contemporary poets Reina María Rodriguez, from Cuba; Mexican fabulist Pablo Helguera; and Chicano multimedia wordsmith Harry Gamboa Jr., from Los Angeles. These essays configure a poetics of the Americas, mirror-occasions for reflecting the fear and fantasies prompted by metaphors of occupation, displacement, and counter-conquest.

Marfa Municipal Alliance for Dead Country and Folk Singers present their second Agave Festival singalong at El Cosmico. Members of the Marfa community gather to perform some of their favorite songs as performed by the legends of Texas country and conjunto music. Madre Mezcal will be on hand, providing free copitas of their ensamble for the first hour! The event is free but the band will be taking donations to support the Marfa Volunteer Fire Department. Thanks to Madre Mezcal for their support!

Claudia Saenz, founder and member of the extraordinary Chulita Vinyl Club, will present a special Agave Festival DJ set sponsored by Heavy Metl and Real Minero Mezcal. Local DJs Yasmine Guevara and Tana Vargas start the show with a collaborative set at 9:30. Real Minero will be on hand to provide complimentary drinks for the first hour!

Celebrated landscape designer Jim Martinez leads a tour of the Native plants garden at Chihuahuan Desert Research Institute in Fort Davis. The tour is free, but attendance is limited to 50 and requires registration in advance. You can reserve spots for yourself and friends and family here. (This event is full, but we encourage you to visit CDRI at another time. It’s a fabulous place.)
