Rodrigo Medellin

Rodrigo Medellin is known throughout the world for his conservation work. In 2005, he founded BIOCONCIENCIA, an NGO devoted to conservation and biodiversity in Mexico.  Among the species he has worked to protect are the jaguar, ocelot and big horned sheep, but he is perhaps best known for his work with the Lesser Long-nosed bat for which he has been given the name "Tequila's Superman". He has served as President of the Society for Conservation Biology (2013-2015) and is currently Senior Professor at the Institute of Ecology UNAM. Additionally, he has produced over 200 publications and oversees projects and students in sixteen countries on five continents.
